“The Real Reason You Can’t Be Successful”

In the second chapter of that same book, Charles Haanel states that, “Our difficulties are largely due to confused ideas and ignorance of our true interests.”  Now, there are a lot of different ways that this statement can be interpreted.  The way that I interpret this statement is that people don’t realize what they really want.  They are confused about their true interest.  To further clarify: A person may want something consciously, but on a subconscious level, they may want something else.  And they may not even realize it.

Let me give some examples:

A person may be sick.  And they may consciously want to be well. But subconsciously they want to remain sick because they love being waited on hand and foot.  They love having people visit them, show them love, send them flowers and give them attention. They love being the victim.  Or maybe they are on disability, and if they got well, they would have to go back to working for a living.  So while they consciously want to get well… they really want to be sick.  And their body will continue to manifest sickness and they won’t even know why!

A person may be single and want to find a good man/woman.  But on a subconscious level, they don’t want any parts of that person. They have spent their entire lives in the “battle of the sexes.” They have repeatedly stated that all members of the opposite sex are _________ s. They will even block their friends from being in a good relationship by dissecting their mates! They enjoy being the encyclopedia of bad relationship stories. Finding themselves in a good relationship would actually conflict with who they are! Or… maybe they are subconsciously afraid to get hurt again.  They are confused.  They are ignorant of what they really desire.

And since your subconscious mind rules your body’s actions and attractions, you will always manifest what your subconscious desires.  So let’s move to the area of finance, wealth and success.

Most people if you ask them will tell you they want to be successful in life, and have a lot or at lease a decent amount of money. But the truth of the matter is, most people don’t want to be successful.  Crazy but true.  Now why in the world would someone not want to be successful?  Because on a subconscious level, many people believe these fictions:

If you become rich, then

  • “THEY” WILL COME GET YOU!  Your Friends, The IRS, The Haters, “They.”  Everyone will come after you and your money. If you make $5, the boogieman will sue you for $10.  One time, I met with a prospective client and he told me that he didn’t want to get life insurance because he didn’t want to give anyone a reason to kill him.  I guess all of the rumors are true.  Poverty is safe!
  • YOU ARE A SELL OUT!  If you make to much money, then you are bourgeoisie.  OH… You think you are all that now! You’ve “changed.” You will now lose all of your friends because you are not “down” anymore. You used to sit around and talk about “them” with your friends, but now you have become one OF “them.”  I guess all of the rumors are true.  Misery not only loves, but has plenty of company.

NOTE: Some people will tell you flat out that they don’t want to have or don’t believe in having a lot of money for whatever reason.  This article will not be applicable to those people because if they didn’t want money, then surely they wouldn’t be subscribed to a finance newsletter.  Unless they are suffering from confused ideas and ignorance of their true interest.  If you’ve gotten hear by search or referral, just keep reading. Now back to the newsletter at hand.

I could go on for days speaking of the reasons why people don’t want to be successful financially.  But one of the main reasons that us good folk don’t want to live in abundance is because…

Rich People Suck!

If you have a lot of money, you will become evil, stupid, self absorbed, vain, shallow and conceited.  You might even Go To Hell!!  And since you are a good person, you will have to stay as far away from this as possible.  I was reading an old blog post by Eric Burnett the other day.  Below is an excerpt from his article.

Eric Burnett Has Heard That==> Rich people suck, are evil, mean, nasty and unethical.

Think about it:

Who’s the bad guy in Harry Potter?
The rich kid. And his rich dad.

Who’s the bad guy in Superman?
The rich guy, Lex Luthor.

Who’s the bad guy in Spiderman?
The rich industrialist.

And who’s the good guy in these stories? Always an orphan. Always someone who’s been mistreated. Always someone who thinks money is unimportant or unnecessary.

Take a look at the movie Titanic: the ONLY “good guys” in that movie were the poor, broke people down in 3rd class.

And who were the rich people? The stupid, shallow, rich people who were all up on first class arguing about whether to have mint sauce on their lamb chops.

FACT: We are conditioned to believe that money is bad and that being broke is somehow better.

No truer words have been spoken.  If I have something that I don’t want anyone else to have, the best way to keep anyone else from getting it is to demonize that thing.  Then no one will want it, and I can have it all to myself.  It’s a cold game out here family.  Don’t get played!

So do you want to be successful?  Or do you want to be a good person?

The truth is that you don’t have to make this choice.  Living in abundance is not going to make you evil, or vain, or stupid.  It will just make you more abundant.  Money has never changed anyone.  Money makes you more of what you already are.

And if you are a good person and you have good intentions towards people, then Why Should YOU Struggle?  Why should you be in last place all the time?  Why can’t you drive a luxury car, or live in a nice home?  Why does being good mean that you have to be one paycheck away from being homeless?  Did God put you on earth just to struggle? Just some food for thought.

Questions: Do you find yourself having a feeling of disdain towards celebrities?  Do you sit around and hate on those that are more successful than you are, because they are more successful than you are?  When you are presented with an opportunity, do you get scared?  Only you can diagnose yourself. And you may have to change your perspective.

But how can you do that?  How can you change the way your subconscious has been programmed for your entire life?  Well first, you need to be aware!  Watch your conversation.  Catch yourself if you are speaking negatively.  Catch yourself if you are thinking negatively.  You can use positive mantras, or affirmations.  Believe in abundance!  The Master Key is a good book for changing the way that you think.  The Science of Getting Rich is also.  Changing your subconscious mind and your pattern of thinking is a process. It won’t happen overnight.

Some people have subconscious blocks and don’t even know it.  And this piece was written just to make you aware of what they may be if you have them.  So just remember this if you want to be successful.  You can’t be successful, if you don’t want to be successful.

So until next time,
