Late last year, Michigan lawmakers passed The Abortion Insurance Opt-Out Act. This law bans insurance plans from covering abortion (even in the case of rape or incest) unless the woman’s life is in danger. Therefore, if you plan on getting an abortion and you want the procedure covered, you will have to purchase a separate abortion rider. That is… If you can find someone who will sell you this rider.
Originally, Gov. Rick Snyder vetoed a similar bill in 2012, but do to over 300,000 signatures petitioning the lawmakers for a second vote, the bill ended up being passed.
